Hospital Aquired Pneumonia (HAP) Policy Project

This collaborative project between Liverpool University and Advancing Quality Alliance (Aqua) investigates the scale of the national hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) burden based on a successful regional programme.

In the North West of England 8 acute trusts have participated in the AQ HAP programme since October 2020, submitting monthly patient level to ascertain levels of care afforded to HAP patients. This project seeks to utilise this robust and validated data set to provide an estimate of HAP cases nationally with a focus on bed days, readmissions and mortality. It seeks to use this work to connect with key policy makers, convening them to better understand the evidence requirements to influence national HAP policy.
